Junsung "Matt" Lee is the Lead for Agenda and External Affairs at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
He graduated from Tsinghua University in 2007 and served for three years as an officer in the Republic of Korea Navy, where he took part in the Naval Escort Task Unit, also known as “Cheonghae Unit,” operating off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.
Before relocating to Jeju, Korea’s southernmost island, he worked briefly in Seoul as a freelance translator and book editor before joining the Jeju Peace Institute, where he served from 2014 to 2018.
He then started graduate school in political science at Jeju National University in 2019. He received his Ph.D. in 2025.
During his doctoral studies, he held research positions at the Society of Ieodo Research and Jeju National University.
His research focuses on Sino–U.S. maritime rivalry, with particular attention to hegemonic competition and maritime security.
